A Night of Rock and Roll with Bogan Villea Review: Unleash the bogan

Type – Cabaret, Comedy
If you liked – Drag Shows, Social and Political Comedy

A Night of Rock and Roll with Bogan Villea: Blak, bogan and as queer as Queen. Let your innner bogan out to play!

You know you’re in for a special Aussie night of entertainment when you take your seat to the oh-so-well-known strains of Cold Chisel’s ‘Khe Sanh’. Above the stage, the glittering Bogan Villea logo is strangely familiar: BV encircled with red and green, remnisicent of a certain inexpensive beer. Everyone’s inner bogan finally had the chance to come out and play: Ben Graetz in his drag persona Bogan Villea gave us all the blessing to go ahead and just do it.

Opening with Bogan Villea giving us at full throttle – what else – ACDC’s Thunderstruck, we knew it was going to be a fully sick show. It was a classic Erko drag show from the old days, with lots of lip-synching and gags in between.

The amazing stand-outs were the two live singers, Ursula Yovich and Scott Hunter. Yovich appeared straight from her other show (singing Nina Simone), in a leather school uniform and belted out a couple of Divinyls hits in a flawless performance. The gorgeous Scott Hunter gave us some classic INXS, sadly his only song in the show.

Tyra Bankstown, Eli Crawford and Tiny Tina lip-synched for their lives, and displayed physical prowess beyond our wildest dreams on killer heels. The mullet competition revealed several fine specimens in the audience – who knew it was such a thing?

Bogan Villea’s costumes got progressively more glittery and glam rock throughout the show, and the sound and lighting gave us the feel of a much bigger venue. It was just a shame that the show didn’t go on for much longer – the audience was up for it!

Is A Night of Rock and Roll with Bogan Villea Worth Seeing in Sydney?

There’s only two more performances, so if you like a bit of political comedy mixed with glitter, flamboyance and some damn fine singing, grab a ticket today and let your inner bogan shine.
