Award winning comedian and actor Thanyia Moore’s August is an honest, raw and deeply personal account of her first season at the Fringe back in 2022. She had worked to establish herself and after ten years felt ready to tackle a full run. Before her first performance however, she experienced a miscarriage.
Moore talks candidly about how difficult this was for her and how she handled her grief. Moore is able to bring the audience with her as she grapples with needing to deal with her grief while also wanting to achieve her professional goals. This for me was the most impactful aspect of the work and that struggle was felt by everyone in the room.
Moore is incredible at crowd work and managing the energy in the room. Many audience members return to see more of her work and it’s not hard to see why. She’s hilarious with sharp, witty one liners and her comedic timing is excellent. Moore tells this story chronologically and the audience were hanging on her every word.
August is such a well written and masterfully performed piece. I hope this means we will see many more Fringe runs for Moore as it is clear she’s a talent who has truly earned her place as a Fringe regular.
