We’ve all experienced our 20’s at some point right? If you’re 19 and reading this, then buckle in for a wild ride. Singer, songwriter and award-winning performer Ally Morgan has brought in some of the best hymns she conjured during her 20’s and bares them all in a barbershop as part of the Bondi Festival 2024.

Morgan takes on her ‘greatest-hits’ tour of her 20’s in no particular order as she looks back on songs written in times of strife, traffic jams, lockdowns, and vaginal lump scares. Morgan’s range ventures from poignantly optimistic in the face of climate change, to cheek-blushing vulgarity, through to songs that will genuinely tap your heart to remind you it’s beating with emotion.

Joined by her song-writing and real-life partner, Morgan show’s a depth of variety tuned over the course of her career thus far as she takes from the piano to the guitar with ease and finds an excuse to play the kazoo. It makes for an enjoyable evening of a song cycle that will make you reflect on your own 20’s and the different eras you went through. It also makes you anxious for what will come in your 30’s!

If only the Bondi Festival found a relaxed bar setting for Morgan to set herself up in. I could have sat there the entire evening with a mulled wine to warm up against the winter chill and allowed myself to swept away into a world of nostalgia and hilarity under the lyrical skills of this performer.

With only one more chance to catch Ally Morgan in action, grab a bite to eat and you too can take stock of what you’ve learned in the first proper adult decade of your life. You may even learn something along the way, particularly when it comes to the shape of the Cervix! If you know, you know.
