SYDNEY INTERNATIONAL BALLET GALA

WORLD STARS OF BALLET

DEBUT ON STAGE AT THE SYDNEY COLISEUM THEATRE

The first-ever International Ballet Gala to be staged in Sydney, Australia is to debut at the spectacular Sydney Coliseum Theatre, West HQ on the weekend of Saturday 16 & Sunday 17 July.

Principal Dancers and Soloists from The Australian Ballet, Royal New Zealand Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Berlin State Ballet, Dutch National Ballet, Sydney Dance Company and Dortmund Ballet are confirmed to participate with lauded ex-Australian Ballet and celebrated Artistic Director, Lucinda Dunn OAMthe Australian Ballet’s longest-serving and most-celebrated Principal Artist as principal supervising artist. 

WORLD STARS OF BALLET will feature three World Premieres and three Australian Premieres created by internationally acclaimed choreographers, Edwaard Liang, Penny Saunders, Yuri Possokhov, Wim Broeckx, Jake Burden and Annabelle Lopez Ochoa.

Stunning protégé of Dunn, Grace Carroll, currently an artist with the Australian Ballet post her tenure at the Paris Opera Ballet School and Royal Ballet School, London will perform the Swan Lake Pas de deux with Bryce Latham, also from the Australian Ballet.  They will be accompanied by full-time students from the Grace’s original dance school Tanya Pearson Academy dancing as her corps de ballet.

Another star to watch is the spectacular Spanish artist, Lucia Laccara, awarded the title Dancer of the Decade in 2011 at the World Ballet Stars Gala in St Petersburg with multiple global accolades to her name.  Lucia will perform the World Premiere of a new pas de deux titled ‘Borealis’ with her partner Matthew Golding.  The piece has been created especially for Laccara by Emmy Award-winning choreographer and Artistic Director of BalletMet, Edwaard Liang

Julian Mackay graduated from the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Moscow and became the first American to receive a full Russian Diploma.  While in school he medalled in five consecutive international ballet competitions including the Prix de Laussane and gold medals at the Istanbul IBC and YAGP along with bronze at Sochi Young Ballet of the World and the Beijing International Ballet Competition. Mackay also moonlights as a much in-demand model, featured in international titles including Harper’s Bazaar, New York Times, Teen Vogue and InStyle Russia.
