The Spiegeltent comes to Wollongong!

If you’re looking for a fun night out full of everything from comedy to circus, the Aurora Spiegeltent comes to Wollongong from 9th March 2022!

Originating in the late 19th century as a travelling entertainment venue, the stunning Aurora Spiegeltent is an extravagant big top tent decorated with mirrors, stained glass, velvet and brocade with a beautifully glamorous old-world. Merrigong Theatre Company brings a host of world-class events to Burelli Street for three weeks of weird, whacky and wonderful fun.

The first week of shows includes Circa’s Peepshow, Garry Starr’s Greece Lightning, Roxee Horror’s Beauty Pageant and music from Smith and the Devil. Perhaps the highlight of the week, with tickets at only $45, is the Aboriginal Comedy Allstars show, starring Australia’s premier comedians Sean ChoolburraKevin KropinyeriAndy Saunders and Steph Tisdell. With sell-out seasons and 5 star reviews in the UK, Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane and beyond, the Allstars bring huge belly laughs from the heart of the wide brown land into the gorgeous Spiegeltent.

For a jam-packed Sunday of laughs (13 March) you can see the Aboriginal Comedy Allstars and Stewart Reeve’s vocal comedy show Chameleon one right after the other!

Aboriginal Comedy Allstars

For a family-friendly day at the Spiegeltent, aXis by Circus Monoxide presents Mechanical Mayhem at 11am and 1pm every Sunday and 11am every Saturday from 12 March to 27 March. Watch as Dr Jean Yus and Dr Knowitall, two eccentric inventors, seek to complete their latest machine. Chaotic slapstick, amazing acrobatics, precarious hand balancing, and phenomenal juggling ensues as the team try to complete their mission.

Mechanical Mayhem

Adults have their pick of the bunch, with saucy cabaret, drag shows, comedy and late-night music galore. Cabaret includes Bernie Dieter’s Club Kabarett, The Purple Rabbit, Club Briefs and The Strangeways Cabaret. On Friday and Saturday nights you can find free courtyard sessions from musicians Kay Proudlove, Smith and the Devil, and Meadowhip right near the Spiegeltent bar. The fabulous Christine Anu hosts her own special evening at 9:30pm on the 18th March. You can even find Rosie Waterland and Jacob Stanley serving up amazing stories in their award-winning podcast Just the Gist – live!
